| Kanye West/ Spike Jonze Collaborate On 'Short Film' March 30, 2009 at 11:39 am |
| Producer reveals exclusive details on project featuring Kanye's 'See You in My Nightmares.' By James Montgomery Kanye West and Spike Jonze Photo: Gary Gershoff/ WireImage The last time Spike Jonze and Kanye West collaborated, 'Ye ended up bound, gagged, stuffed in a trunk and on the receiving end of some serious shovel-related violence. This time, who knows what will happen? Well, we do, actually. Last week, news began to trickle out that West and director Jonze — who teamed up last year for the eye-popping (and brain-warping) "Flashing Lights" video — were working together once again, this time on a video for West's "See You in My Nightmares." Intrigued, MTV News decided to follow up, reaching out to reps for both parties for comment on the collaboration. "They've teamed up again, but this time, it's for a short film," Vincent Landay, Jonze's producing partner, told MTV News. "It's not necessarily [a video for 'Nightmares'], but the song is featured in it. We're still editing it right now, it's probably going to run between 10-15 minutes. ... Essentially, we've been editing it whenever we had time — it'll be a couple of weeks on and then a couple of weeks off. ... Nobody's making any money on it, so it's sort of like, 'Hey, let's get in there and edit on night and weekends.' " Landay — who has produced the majority of Jonze's ventures, including his upcoming "Where the Wild Things Are" movie — went on to add that the film was shot at the end of January over the course of two days in Los Angeles, and that there's no set date for its release. And while he wasn't about to reveal all the details about the project, Landay did say that it's a decidedly Jonze-ian event. "I'd rather not say what that plot is, but it's based on an idea Spike had," Landay explained. "It came to him, and he called Kanye and said, 'I think you'd be great in this. We showed Kanye a very early rough cut, and he said, 'It's very Spike Jonze.' ... I don't know when or where it will debut. We did it for fun, so maybe it would be good if someone would give us an actual deadline for it." A spokesperson for West's label, Island Def Jam, did not respond to MTV News' requests for comment on the "Nightmares" short film. It's not known if the song will be actively promoted as the third single from West's 808s & Heartbreak, as it is one of four tracks from the album — along with "Amazing," "Paranoid" and "Welcome to Heartbreak" — currently receiving airplay on radio. | Green Day Bring American Idiot To The Stage March 30, 2009 at 11:32 am |
| 'Spring Awakening' director to stage musical featuring songs from Idiot and upcoming 21st Century Breakdown. By Gil Kaufman Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images If U2 can bring Spider-Man to Broadway, then why can't Green Day do the same for the Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy and Whatsername? Those characters, and likely a few more, will make their stage debut in September when the East Bay-bred punk trio debut a new musical production adapted from their American Idiot album at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. The 12-million-selling, Grammy-winning 2004 album will be transformed for the stage by the group and Tony-winning "Spring Awakening" director Michael Mayer at the same theater that launched last year's hit rock musical, "Passing Strange." According to a press release from GD's label, the show will feature all the songs from the album, as well as several new tunes from the band's upcoming follow-up, 21st Century Breakdown, due out May 15. (The video for Breakdown's first single, "Know Your Enemy," premieres on MTV on April 24.) "We are really excited to be working with Michael Mayer on this project," Green Day singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. "We'd been thinking of bringing American Idiot to the stage, but knew we needed to find the right partners. After meeting with Michael to discuss the possibility, he invited us to see 'Spring Awakening.' We were so impressed with that production, as well as his vision for American Idiot, that we knew we'd found the perfect collaborator. Plus, doing it in our hometown at Berkeley Rep was an obvious bonus. They're an amazing theater group, very adventurous, and their willingness to take chances is in keeping with the spirit of the album. The end result will be terrific, and we're really proud." The show is slated to run from September 4 through October 11 as the first production in the theater's 2009-2010 season. The album tells the story of a group of working-class characters from the suburbs who search for salvation in a world filled with dead ends, broken dreams and doomed love affairs. The high-energy show will feature an onstage band playing along with an ensemble of 19 young performers. "When I first heard American Idiot, I was struck by its innate theatricality," Mayer said in a statement. "Here was a new musical drama begging to be staged. Who would have thought that one of the most brutally honest, eloquent, passionate, funny and poetic theatrical responses to the post 9-11 world would be a Green Day record? The connection I felt to American Idiot surprised me. I knew and liked Green Day, but had no clue that I would ever feel so inside their songs. This work of passion and vision and fierce intelligence seemed to me like the heartbeat of a generation of Americans who were fed up. I hear in these amazing songs the articulation of their frustration, anger, longing for a better world — a journey from apathy to action. Collaborating with Billie Joe and the band is a mind-blowing thrill." Mayer told the New York Times that the show would likely follow the three central characters and that though it is too soon to contemplate a possible Broadway run, it's not out of the question. Though Armstrong admitted that the unexpected collaboration with Mayer "doesn't make a lot of sense," that's exactly what he's so excited about. "When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream." With the staging of Idiot and Breakdown, Armstrong said the band — which also includes bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool — has measured up to one of its idols, the Who, whose concept album, Tommy, has played on Broadway and whose Quadrophenia is due to open as a stage musical in England in May. In fact, Armstrong told the Times, the Idiot musical might even signal the point at which Green Day surpass another major influence, punk icons the Clash, whose own high-concept albums such as London Calling and the three-disc Sandinista, never made it to the theater. "I guess maybe we're a bit more fruity than the Clash," Armstrong suggested. Related Artists |
| Madonna Awaiting Word On Second Malawian Adoption March 30, 2009 at 10:43 am |
| Singer trying to adopt 4-year-old girl from the southeast African nation. By Gil Kaufman Madonna Photo: Ray Tamarra/ Getty Images Madonna is in Malawi this week awaiting word on whether she will be allowed to adopt a second child from the African nation. According to The Associated Press, the singer arrived in Malawi on Sunday in a bid to adopt a 4-year-old girl named Chifundo ("Mercy") James, and attended a closed-door hearing on Monday (March 30) in which a Malawian judge delayed a ruling on the application for adoption until Friday. The 50-year-old singer, whose 3-year-old son, David, was adopted from Malawi in 2006, reportedly spent about an hour in court on Monday in the capital of Lilongwe. It was unclear if any of the child's relatives were present at the courthouse, but officials told the AP that the girl is about 4 years old and that her unmarried teenage mother died soon after she was born. The girl's father is believed to be alive, but no details about his whereabouts were available. A spokesperson for the singer did not return requests for comment at press time. Madonna has not made a statement about the adoption to date, but has reportedly faced criticism from some children's advocacy groups for using her considerable wealth and influence to circumvent Malawian laws that require an 18- to 24-month assessment period before adoption; similar judgments were made during the adoption of son David, which was finalized in 2008. The law requires that foreign adopters spend a year or more living in the country with the children they want to adopt. Over the weekend, the British branch of Save the Children said the recently divorced singer was sending the wrong message with the adoption. "The best place for a child is in his or her family in their home community," spokesman Dominic Nutt said in a statement, according to CNN. "Most children in orphanages have one parent still living, or have an extended family that can care for them in the absence of their parents." Should the adoption go through, Madonna will be a single mother of four. She has an 8-year-old son, Rocco, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from her relationship with athletic trainer Carlos Leon, and adopted son David. Both David and Lourdes accompanied Madonna to Malawi, and CNN reported that David spent several hours with his biological father at the exclusive lodge where the singer is staying. "I was very happy to see him," father Yohane Banda told the AP, although he noted that David did not recognize him. "He asked me who I was." Related Artists |
| T-Pain Returns To Stage After Golf-Cart Accident March 30, 2009 at 9:41 am |
| Singer lost teeth after flipping cart on Friday. By Gil Kaufman T-Pain Photo: Gary Gershoff/ WireImage After a backstage mishap sent him to the hospital last week for some emergency dental surgery, T-Pain was back to the grind on Sunday night, a bit bruised, but not too worse for the wear. "There's a lot of talk that I flipped over in a golf cart," Pain told his audience on Sunday at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, Rap-Up.com reported. According to reports, Pain suffered cuts and abrasions, and lost four teeth in the accident, which caused him to miss the Friday stop of Lil Wayne's I Am Music tour in San Jose, California. "That's f---ing true," Pain confirmed about the accident. "It did happen like three days ago. My ass is on fire right now. My side hurt, my mouth hurt." But despite the bumps, bruises and missing teeth, the Titan of AutoTune was reportedly in a good mood on Sunday, telling the crowd, "I bust my ass. I'd show you the marks, but I don't wanna pull my pants down right now. ... I got my teeth fixed the same day. Rich n---a teeth." A spokesperson for T-Pain could not be reached for comment at press time, but according to reports, the injury also caused the singer to miss a video shoot for Lil' Kim's new single, "Download." Kim told HipHollywood.com that though Pain missed out on the shoot, he will be in the video. "He's gonna be in the video, but we've got to wait until he heals and gets better." Pain appeared to have a good sense of humor about the incident, telling the Gibson crowd, "I don't give a f--- how many golf carts I flip over. If I was any less of a showman tonight, I apologize." | Pete Wentz Can't Wait To See Ashlee On 'Melrose Place' March 30, 2009 at 9:02 am |
| 'I hope she gets to play the bi---,' Fall Out Boy bassist says of his wife's new gig. By Larry Carroll Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz at the 2009 Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday Photo: MTV News WESTWOOD, California — Although Ashlee Simpson had to stay home with their newborn Bronx Mowgli on Saturday night, Pete Wentz was eager to talk about his wife's new gig when he walked the orange carpet at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. The Fall Out Boy rocker boasted that Ashlee will soon be getting down and dirty on the upcoming "Melrose Place" redux. "I hope she gets to play the bi---," Wentz said of her reported role as a manipulative small-town girl who gets what she wants by any means necessary. "I'm excited to watch. She's a good actress, so I think it will be awesome." Created by Darren Star, who also brought fans "Sex and the City" and the recently-rebooted "90210," the original "Melrose Place" ran from 1992-1999 and centered on an apartment block in West Hollywood filled with young, attractive, drama-embracing tenants. The series starred Heather Locklear, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Marcia Cross and Andrew Shue. But if you're too young to remember all that, don't feel bad — because Pete and Ashlee didn't watch the original "Melrose" either. "She was way too young, and I was just a little bit too young," Wentz said. "I was into '90210' and maybe some 'Melrose Place,' but I was always more of a 'Saved By the Bell' kind of guy." Some might think that before Ashlee moves into "Melrose" alongside Katie Cassidy and (possibly) Mischa Barton, the Wentz family would give themselves a crash course by renting all the DVDs. But Pete insisted that familiarizing herself with the old show wouldn't do Ashlee much good. "No, I think they're revamping it," he explained. "They're not ignoring [the original], but it's being given a new look, a makeover." Two "Melrose" traditions that seem unlikely to change, however, are the high-profile guest stars and the naughty pool-boys out to explore far more than the deep end. Although Pete recently joined Ashlee for an episode of "CSI: NY," he was quick to insist that he won't be reuniting with her on "Melrose Place." "I usually do the pool-boy cameo at my wife's house," he grinned. "So, I don't think I'll do it on TV." Related Artists |
| T.I. Says He Proved He Was 'Worthy' Of Experimental Plea Deal March 30, 2009 at 8:26 am |
| Rapper says his ability to relate to at-risk youth helped reduced his prison sentence. By Jayson Rodriguez T.I. Photo: MTV News ATLANTA — The sentencing judge called it "experimental." The U.S. attorney who helped broker the arrangement called it "unique." And T.I. himself acknowledged that his plea deal — which reduced a potential 10-year prison term into community service and, more than likely, less than a year's worth of jail time — was "an opportunity." T.I. wasn't the recipient of the plea deal because he snitched, he's often said. Nor did he get the benefit of the doubt from the legal system because he's rich. Tip landed his plea deal due to a combination of his fame, his familiar troubled past and his ability to recount his transformation from trap star to rap star as a means of influencing at-risk youth. "If they would have gave Joe Blow, who got arrested with guns the next day or the next week — if [the court] would have gave him my deal, could he have turned around and given as much back to the community as I have? No he couldn't," T.I. told MTV News' Sway during their conversation for "Road to Redemption: The Reckoning," which airs Tuesday on MTV. "I showed I was worthy of this and this was something possible," Tip continued. "So they decided the opportunity was worth the chance." The rapper's lawyer has said his client has made upwards of 260 public appearances in the past year, talking to schools, youth groups and churches. T.I. speaks about his mistakes during these appearances, owning up to his behavior and aiming to keep kids on the right path. In his sit-down with Sway, Tip explained that he understands one conversation with children may not be enough to deter them. But he's staying in touch with those he can. The rapper eventually hopes the positive interventions — from "Road to Redemption" and his public appearances — will be a strong enough alternative to an at-risk teen's turbulent influences. "I try to get eye-level with these kids," T.I. told MTV News, referencing his troubled history. "The only thing I have that they don't have is the experience of making it through." Tip added that he believes he's helped to give some of the kids he visits "a conscience," even if takes some longer than others to realize it. "It's like with cigarette smokers," he said. "Not everyone can go cold turkey. Some go from two packs a day to one pack a day to the point where they don't buy cigarettes anymore, they just bum them, and then they quit." At his sentencing on Friday, Tip's legal team said although there may not be any hard numbers to confirm the rapper's influence, they believe his work with kids to be exemplary. One of T.I.'s attorneys read a letter from the probation officer of one of the "Road to Redemption" kids, Anthony, thanking Tip for his work and hoping he continues his outreach after his prison stay. MTV News will have more from T.I. in the coming days. Don't miss "T.I.'s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning," airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Related Videos Related Photos Related Artists |
| Akon's 'Blood Into Gold' Raises Awareness Of Horrors Of Human Trafficking March 30, 2009 at 7:54 am |
| Singer also teamed up with Peter Buffet to launch IsThereSomethingICanDo.com. By Shaheem Reid Akon Photo: Rick Diamond/ Getty Images Akon is busy working on one of his most important collaborations. When 'Kon and legendary singer Peter Buffet first came together to discuss music, they found more common ground in their interest in philanthropy — now the two are working together to stop human trafficking across the globe. "We have a Web site called IsThereSomethingICanDo.com," Akon said. "What this site is, it gives anyone information related to foundations. Some people are like, 'I want to help somebody' or they want to donate money to a foundation, but don't have the means to find out how to do so — this site is almost like a Google for that. Anybody that wants to do anything philanthropic can go to this site and get more information on it. What we do every quarter is focus on a topic — this quarter is human trafficking. It's something that's been happening around the world. That's the focus, and we're launching a song we did called 'Blood Into Gold.' "The concept is how people take blood and turn it into gold," he explained on Wednesday night before performing the record at the United Nations. 'Kon and Buffet have previously joined forces on projects for Africa as well as other charities. Akon explained that through his travels, he learned of human trafficking and he wanted to do his part to help. "You can raise the awareness of it," he said. "[There's] a lot of that going on around the world, people being sold — even here, pimping is human trafficking, if you look at it. You got these women in brothels and whorehouses against their wills. A lot of people don't know what to do or where to start, let alone how to stop it. We're just trying to find a solution. Our involvement is not profitable; it's just to raise awareness. The more people who know about it, the solutions are eventually gonna come. That's how you start — people who aren't aware, make them aware." | Rihanna Cooperating In Chris Brown Investigation, D.A. Says March 30, 2009 at 7:05 am |
| Lawyer, district attorney refute reports that singer is not cooperating. By MTV News staff Rihanna Photo: Marcel Thomas/ Getty Images After a Fox News report that claimed Rihanna was not cooperating with the investigation into her alleged altercation with Chris Brown and "wants the whole thing" to go away, the Los Angeles County District Attorney and Rihanna's lawyer said Monday (March 30) that the report is untrue, according to UsMagazine.com. "We deal with her attorney, who says she is a cooperating victim," Los Angeles County D.A. spokesperson Sandi Gibbons told the site. Rihanna's lawyer, Donald Etra, told the site Monday: "She will do everything that the law requires her to do ... nothing has changed." Etra told MTV News earlier this month, "At this point, she is willing to do anything that the law requires her to do. ... If subpoenaed, she will testify." Asked to confirm reports that the couple have reunited since the alleged February 8 incident, Etra said now is "neither the time nor the place to discuss their relationship." However, Diddy essentially confirmed the reunion on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" earlier this month, explaining that he'd let the couple stay at his Miami home. Loyola Law School professor Stan Goldman said the D.A.'s case could be jeopardized if Rihanna refuses to testify because her statements to police can only be used against him if she agrees to testify. Brown did not enter a plea at his arraignment on March 5, where his lawyer, Mark Geragos, asked for a continuance in the case, postponing the singer's arraignment until April 6. | Men At A Britney Spears Concert: What Are They Doing There? March 30, 2009 at 7:05 am |
| While some are escorts or closeted fans, others aren't afraid to scream, 'I love Britney!' By Nicole Guanlao Photo: MTV News PITTSBURGH — Almost everyone we've spoken with who's seen Britney Spears' Circus Tour has said the same thing: The women in the audience outnumber the men by a huge margin. The gender divide is most obvious in the lines for the rest rooms, which often results in desperate females sneaking into the almost-deserted men's rooms. While we didn't conduct any restroom interviews at the tour's Pittsburgh stop on Friday, we did corner some of the males in the audience to find out what brought them to the show. Although most guys gave a generic "I'm here with my girlfriend/ wife/ daughter," some men were more than happy to admit they paid top dollar to go to the show and expressed their love for Britney. "She's so hot! She's every man's fantasy!" enthused 21-year-old Hugh Stumpp. "A lot of guys like Britney Spears," said Steven Dearth, 19. "They're just afraid to come out and say it. So we're just coming out tonight to enjoy ourselves at the Britney Spears concert because we're not afraid to say that we love Britney Spears!" Even some of the guys who played arm-candy for the show admitted that they're fans, even if they might not know the lyrics to the Circus album by heart. "I can honestly say I like Britney Spears," said Joe Franciscus, 20, who joined four of his female friends to the concert. "She's hot! I think she's pretty talented. Even though she's gone through all this stuff, she's still moved on with everything." Belle Peng, 21, said she suspects her boyfriend, Nikita Nesterov, 20, is more of a Spears fan than he might be letting on. "Nikita was more excited about seeing Britney than the girls were," she joked. Sure, guys escorting girlfriends, wives and family members were represented — but with so many unattended young women around, were any of the guys looking for dates? "A lot of guys feel uncomfortable," Nesterov said. "If my friends were here they would probably change their minds, because there's a lot of girls here, and the show is pretty good." Chris Hink, 19, went to the concert with friends and even bought a Spears T-shirt, even though they didn't come in men's sizes. Despite the small number of males at the show, most audience members agreed that the men sitting at home were definitely missing out on a great show. "I'm sure there are a lot of guys out there that are Britney fans that just didn't want to come to the concert," said Natalie Nilon, 27, who attended the show with her husband, Shaun. "Maybe they didn't have a girlfriend to take, but I'm thinking there are guys out there that wish they were there tonight." Related Artists |
| Gucci Mane Is Out Of Jail And Back On The Mixtape Circuit: Mixtape Monday March 30, 2009 at 6:54 am |
| Plus: 50 Cent plans mixtape; Canibus, Keith Murray and Erick Sermon team up for a project. By Shaheem Reid with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Gucci Mane Photo: MTV News Artist: Gucci Mane Representing: The Eastside of Atlanta Mixtape: Writing on Da Wall 411: He has his face on almost as many mixtape covers as Lil Wayne and the streets have been shouting his name for a while — Gucci Mane is home and he doesn't want to stop working. "I was very excited about the new popularity I had," Gucci said about the fresh batch of fans he gained during the past seven months he spent in jail. "I got a bigger audience to dig my new stuff. I'm always making music, so to do it in front of bigger audience so more people can tune in ... I got more listeners now." While he was incarcerated, Gucci's camp and friends launched a campaign to help keep his name in people's ears. He had over an album's worth of material circulating through the underground, including tracks he recorded for himself or guest appearances on other artists' songs. He wasted no time in getting back out there after he was released from the big house. "My new mixtape is called Writing on Da Wall," he explained in Atlanta recently. "I started working on it when I got out of jail. ... I put some of the best verses I think I ever wrote on it. I'm gearing them up for my album ... I just went hard in on 'em. Me and DJ Holiday came up with a concept and put a lot of lifetime experiences on them songs." "Gucci is one of the best artists I've ever worked with because he has a creative mind," Holiday said. "He paints a picture." The Gucc and Holiday hooked up last year for the E.A. Sports mixtape which spawned the shameless hood hit "Bricks." Holiday later helmed the remix of the record. "You gotta respect the grind of n---as," singer Sean Garrett said. "Gucci came up, he's been grinding. DJ Holiday's been grinding. I seen a lot of these cats three, four years ago. Same with me, I've just been working since I got back to Atlanta." Joints to Check For » "First Day Out." "It's a banger, man," Gucci said. "It might be the intro to the mixtape. It's stupid crazy for 12, 16 bars, man — just a gangsta intro for Writing on Da Wall to start the pace off right." » "Heavy Trafficking." "That was another banger right there," Gucc explained. "My boy Zaytoven produced it. No hook, just raw stuff — raw music, gangsta rap at its best." » "Going In." " 'Going In' was three verses and a hook," Mane said. "It's an original song, original track for the mixtape. Fat Boy on the beat. Apparently Fif is in Las Vegas now working with Dre on Before I Self Destruct, and somewhere along the way, he's going to put aside material for a street CD. "I heard they locked it down this weekend," Whoo Kid said. "[The album] is still in the oven. It's so many records, so it's kind of hard to choose which one to really showcase immediately out there. But as he's doing his "Pimpin' Curly," annihilating Rick Ross, he's working on a mixtape and getting it cracking out there. Same with Banks. Banks killed iTunes with his freestyle, so we're trying to figure out how the next couple of weeks are going to work out. But mixtapes are in the works. You know mixtapes are in the works. [Banks] don't play when it comes to freestyles." Whoo Kid said the entire G-Unit are in "hungry dog" mode. "Rabid on the equipment," the DJ said. "You don't wanna go over there, it's vicious. You see how bad it gets with 50 when it come to revenge and beef — I'm scared to go over there." Speaking of scared, Eminem's camp is wary of Whoo Kid getting anywhere near the new Slim Shady record "We Made You." The Queens native laughed that they are afraid of him leaking the track. "They're stressing me not to come to the studio so I don't Bluetooth their computers," Whoo Kid laughed. "They're mixing it down in Vegas. It might be today, tomorrow — but it's definitely gonna come out." ... Only for the fans of lyrics — Keith Murray and Canibus are recording an independent rap album together, with Erick Sermon supplying the beats. "What happened was, I think Keith Murray and Canibus were doing shows [and came up with the idea]," Sermon explained. "They've been doing shows for the last six months back and forth. I guess somebody stepped to them about putting something together. They called me to do the album. I think they're two songs deep so far, but it's kinda ill to hear them. Keith Murray is out-there, lyrically, and now Canibus is a step way further out-there than he is. It's a dope mixture." Sermon promised that there will be no commercialism on the album — the duo aren't going for airplay, they just want to capture the underground audience. "It's only for heads," E said. "I don't think there's gonna be one radio record on there, just rhymes and concepts." Expect the concepts to get really weird — Canibus has made records where he raps from the perspective of the AIDS virus, while Murr can go interplanetary like he did on "Escape From the World." Sermon says the two are definitely going for the jugular. "The whole thing that made EPMD dope, that's what made Redman and Method Man dope — you kinda battle each other in between. You get busy. We do a track together and I'm like, 'Damn, he said something!' You go right. ... If Canibus says something, Murray gonna try to [say something better]. But it's friendly so far. What I've experienced so far has been really, really crazy." For other artists featured in Mixtape Monday, check out Mixtape Mondays Headlines. Related Videos Related Artists |
| Outkast's Andre 3000 Arrested For Driving 109 MPH March 30, 2009 at 6:43 am |
| MC was reportedly arrested and released outside Atlanta early Saturday. By MTV News staff Andre 3000 Photo: Michael Loccisano/ FilmMagic Outkast's Andre 3000 (real name: Andre Benjamin) was arrested near Atlanta Saturday for driving his 2007 Porsche Carrera at such a high speed that police called him "an accident waiting to happen," according to Atlanta's WSB-TV, TMZ and AllHipHop.com. A police officer told the station that the MC was clocked at 109 MPH on Saturday morning, significantly over the 65-mph speed limit, on Interstate 75, and was arrested for the danger he posed. "Traveling that fast along 75, you're passing people as if they're standing still," Henry County Police Captain Jason Bolton told the station. "It's an accident waiting to happen." The MC was released after posting $1,200 bail, according to TMZ. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29. Reps for Benjamin had not responded to MTV News' requests for comment at press time. The arrest comes as State Representative Jim Cole is lobbying for a new "Super Speeder" bill to be passed in the state of Georgia. The law will force violators to pay an additional $200 fine for driving at more than 85 miles an hour on highways and four-lane roads. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has said he supports the bill and intends to sign it into law in the coming months. Representative Cole told WSB that he hopes Benjamin will help rally support behind the bill. "He might be willing to help us market it," Cole told the station. Related Artists |

The Full Service Tour kicks off May 28 in Atlanta and makes stops all across the U.S., wrapping up July 18 in the Woodlands, Texas. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday. The band is offering a variety of ticket packages, including the VIP Experience, which gets fans a backyard BBQ with the New Kids. In a video on the band's Web site, Donnie Wahlberg said, "Full Service — you want it, you're gonna get it." Last year, the guys reunited for a successful reunion tour. Back in May, the guys spoke to MTV News about the reunion. "Everything is just really flowing," Joe McIntyre said. "I feel like we're in a good place, and we're doing it for the right reasons and we're having a good time." For the last tour, Jordan Knight said they didn't want to give the fans the same old thing they've been doing for the past 20 years. "We've performed those songs so many times that we want to give 'em a slight twist," he said. "We don't want fans to not have that feeling they had when they were young. We want to re-create that for them." | 'City' Star Whitney Port Says 'Twilight' Is 'Really Bad' March 30, 2009 at 3:09 am |
| 'I just didn't think the acting was so good,' reality star says of the first movie of the series. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kim Stolz Whitney Port Photo: MTV News It seems like these days everyone has caught "Twilight" fever — even celebrities like Ashley Tisdale and Ryan Reynolds admit to being fans of the teen vampire saga. But, there's one celebrity who isn't buying into it — and she knows a thing or two about drama. Former "The Hills" and now "The City" star Whitney Port admitted to MTV News that, despite seeing the movie, she has yet to figure out just what the big deal is surrounding "Twilight." "I haven't read the books, but I saw the movie," she said. "I thought the movie was really bad. I love whatever his name is ... Robert [Pattinson]. I think he's so good-looking and handsome. I haven't met him." Although Whitney has love for Robert, she has more lukewarm feelings for his "Twilight" co-star, Kristen Stewart. "She's OK. She seems so serious, like she's so one-dimensional," she said. "I think [Stewart and Pattinson] have good chemistry ... I just didn't think the acting was so good." With all that in mind, it seems that everyone in Hollywood — no matter how they feel about "Twilight" — has auditioned for a part in one of the upcoming sequels. It begs the question: Is Whitney looking to audition? "I'm not really so much of an actress. I didn't do this to do acting," she said. Check out everything we've got on "Twilight." | Lil Wayne, Keri Hilson Get Hot And Heavy At California Concert March 30, 2009 at 2:39 am |
| Hilson lifts Weezy's shirt and says, 'Ain't nothin' lil about this Wayne!' By Jem Aswad Lil Wayne performs in Universal City on Sunday Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images At the Los Angeles-area stop of Lil Wayne's I Am Music Tour — which also features Keri Hilson, Gym Class Heroes, Gorilla Zoe and T-Pain (recently recovered from his, er, golf-cart accident) — Weezy and Hilson indulged in some mature-audiences-only flirting that had the crowd shrieking with excitement. A video posted on Wayne's blog shows the pair grinding playfully while performing "Turnin Me On" (from Hilson's just-released debut LP, In a Perfect World...) at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday. After the song ends with Hilson singing the line, "... recognize a real woman," Hilson takes a moment to talk to the crowd about Wayne. "I don't know about y'all, but he's definitely turning me on right now!" she says. "That's right — Wayne, he knows how to recognize a real woman." She then moves behind him — standing a good six inches taller than the diminutive MC — reaches over his shoulder, lifts up his shirt and says, "Let me tell y'all something you might not know: Ain't a damn thing lil about this Wayne!" As the crowd shrieks its approval and Hilson begins walking offstage, Wayne gives her a playful swat on the butt. She sings, "Now wait a minute!," then laughs and says "Bye baby!" Wayne says "Bye baby!" before roaring "Keri Hilson, y'aaaaaaall!" The pair also performed the song — with more tame flirting — on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Friday night. Lil Wayne's tour continues into April, with stops on the West Coast and Hawaii before heading into the Midwest. At press time, Weezy's oft-delayed forthcoming rock album, Rebirth, still did not have a confirmed release date. Related Photos Related Artists |
| Pete Wentz Calls Rumors Of Marital Problems 'Nonsense' March 30, 2009 at 2:09 am |
| Fall Out Boy bassist e-mails MTV News about his relationship with Ashlee Simpson. By James Montgomery Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz Photo: Cameron Spencer/Getty Image Last week, the New York Post and other gossip sites were abuzz with rumors that Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's marriage was "on the rocks" due to the Fall Out Boy bassist's party-packed schedule. But on Friday, perhaps attempting to dispel those rumors (or perhaps because they're a married couple), Wentz and Simpson shared an onstage smooch at the Australian Video Music Awards. "Sorry, we haven't seen each other in a while," Simpson told the audience. "We're going to find a quiet place to fornicate." We got it. But, if PDAs weren't enough to silence the chatter, well, then perhaps this is: Late Friday night — sometime before winging his way from Australia to the red carpet of the Kid's Choice Awards — Wentz decided to e-mail MTV News about the rumors that his marriage was in trouble, dismissing them as "nonsense" and cautioning his fans to consider the source before leaping to conclusions. "We're still going steady. She's still wearing my letterman jacket," he wrote. "And you shouldn't believe everything you read on the Internet. It's nonsense." All the speculation is nothing new for the couple, who got engaged in April 2008, then married the following month amid intense media scrutiny that Simpson was pregnant. Wentz initially denied those rumors, then announced via a post on FriendsOrEnemies.com that they were, in fact, expecting a child. In November, Simpson gave birth to son, Bronx Mowgli, a name that launched a whole new wave of media attention. The couple will celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary on May 17. | Nick Cannon Buys Mariah Carey A Dog For Their Anniversary March 30, 2009 at 2:09 am |
| Actor bought Carey a short-haired Jack Russell terrier named Cha-Cha. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey Photo: Larry Busacca/ WireImage Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon will celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary in May, after being secretly married last spring in the Bahamas. So what does a guy get the girl who has everything? "I got her a short-haired Jack Russell terrier," he told Us Weekly. "A girl, named Cha-Cha. She's 8 weeks." Although Cannon laughed off rumors that he and Carey are expecting a baby, he did say that being married to her is "the most amazing thing ever. I couldn't wish for anything else." He even offered evidence of why the marriage is so great. "She's the most incredible woman," he said. "Being in a strong union and being there for each other is something that I'd never really experienced before, so to experience it with my wife is remarkable. We're together as one, and that's important to me." The couple plan on getting away for their upcoming anniversary to a tropical locale, similar to the one where they were married a year ago. "We never went on a honeymoon," he said. "So I guess I can tell you we'll probably go to Barbados." Cannon also recently spoke to "Extra" about the possibility of working with Carey on any music. "I am not worthy of being on a Mariah Carey record," he insisted. "Please, we're going to try to keep her career soaring. I can't even step into the studio with that woman. She is incredible."
