Breaking: Spector sentenced to 19 years to life
May 29, 2009 at 4:16 pm

From our news wire:

Music producer Phil Spector has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

Spector was convicted of killing the actress last month. Clarkson was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in the foyer of the music mogul’s Alhambra, California mansion in 2003.

His lawyers are planning to appeal his conviction.

Spector’s benighted wife leaves court, after the jump.

Why is this woman smiling?  Her husband just got two decades in the hoosegow.  Although the kind of person who would marry a tiny murderer with horrible fake hair is probably also the kind of person who’s happy to keep spending his record-royalties money while he’s making license plates in the state pen.

Prince Harry participated in the official naming of the British Gardens at Hanover Square in New York City on Friday.  We devoutly hope he didn’t name them anything inappropriate.

Morrissey ankles remaining UK tour dates

Morrissey has cancelled the rest of his UK concert dates, as health issues continue to plague his world tour.

The former Smiths frontman has battled a throat condition for months, which postponed the kickoff of his U.S. tour and led to the cancellation of a string of d ates in the U.K. through the month of May.

Now “Mozza” has been told by a doctor to kibosh his last two shows in Britain, which were scheduled for Friday and Saturday in London — bumming out British fans who have now seen the “Hairdresser On Fire” singer sack seven shows in the U.K. this year to date.

Morrissey won’t be going ahead with planned gigs in Frances on 1-2 June, either, but it’s hoped he’ll be back onstage for a 5  June date in Luxembourg.

Tour organizers promise the cancelled dates will be rescheduled, and urge fans to keep their tickets for those shows.

Wonder if they played "Rumours"

Friends Courteney Cox Arquette and Jennifer Aniston, along with David Arquette and some dude, left the Staples Center in L.A. on Thursday night after taking in the Fleetwood Mac show.  Last week’s rumors regarding Aniston driving a wedge between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seem to have been just that (unless Pitt just couldn’t get babysitting in time for the Fleetwood Mac gig).

Spelling accuses Spelling of killing…well, Spelling

Candy Spelling is going with a scorched-earth strategy vis-a-vis her estrangement from daughter Tori of Famous Original 90210 — now she’s accusing the Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood star of hastening her father Aaron’s death.

Last month, we heard socialite Candy boo-hoo-ing that Tori didn’t return her calls, and taking to her website to plead with Tori to get in touch.  But if that’s what Candy wants, she’s got a strange way of going about it: Candy chose to reveal to a morning radio show on Thursday that Tori’s decision to cut her family out of her life killed her father, TV titan Aaron Spelling.

Candy told the Kellogg Crew on 94.7 WMAS in Massachusetts that Tori turning her back on them “killed my husband.  He just didn’t want to live after that.”  Added  Candy, “He’d done everything he could possibly do for his daughter and then she wanted no part of him once he couldn’t do anything for her.”

Candy and Tori have warred in the press since Aaron’s death in 2006, with Candy claiming she has yet to meet her own grandchildren, but with accusations like that getting slung about, it’s not hard to see why (although we’re not saying we don’t believe some of it; it’s not like Tori could have had an acting career without Aaron’s intercession).

Also, the man was 83 years old when he died.  The likeliest cause of death there?  Being…83 years old.

Tweed released, advertises for Pennsylvania university?

Jack Tweed was sprung from Edmunds Hill jail (near Newmarket, Suffolk) just after 10 AM Greenwich time on Friday.  Tweed, the widower of reality TV personality Jade Goody, got an early release after serving half of a 12-week sentence for assaulting a taxi driver.  We don’t know the story behind his spanking-new F&M sweatsuit — we don’t think the school is well known outside the U.S. Northeast — but if he’s heading back to class, good luck to him.

Tweed was met by his mother Mary and his best friend Mark Wright outside the prison.  Tweed planned to put visiting the grave of his late wife at the top of his to-do list.

There's no out-Fox-ing airport security, even for celebs

Transformers’s Megan Fox suffered the same beleaguerment in the airport security line that we’ve all felt while traveling when she arrived at LAX for her flight on Thursday.  On the plus side, we got a closer look at her chic boots, but despite a helping hand from a TSA official here, Fox looks like we look when it’s time to shuffle through the metal detectors: annoyed.

For those of you whose scorecards are already covered with scribbles and annotations on this one: Fox and Brian Austin Green are together as of this writing, as far as we know.
