Sutherland, McCollough settle differences

24 season finale 130509

Kiefer Sutherland, shown with Carlos Bernard at the 24 finale party a couple weeks ago, is apparently out of legal hot water with Jack McCollough, who alleged that Sutherland head-butted him at a party.

McCollough claimed the actor had attacked him for no reason at the Met Gala in New York on 5 May, while Sutherland’s side was that Proenza Schouler designer McCollough barged past Brooke Shields, and Sutherland confronted him.  Shields has confirmed Sutherland’s story and called the whole flapdoodle “unfortunate.”

McCollough ended up with a broken nose after the encounter, and Sutherland has since admitted that he “regretted” the set-to.

We don’t have details on the settlement, or how it came about, but the rapprochement may mean the assault charges against Sutherland will be dropped.  More as we have it.

Common defends Bale rant as good PR

Rapper/actor Common is looking on the bright side of Terminator: Salvation co-star Christian Bale’s infamous on-set rant — because it was great promotion for the new movie.

Common was on the set, but in his trailer, when Bale very volubly took exception to DP Shane Hurlbut’s decision to step into Bale’s line of vision to correct a lighting issue during a tense scene.  While he didn’t hear Bale’s blasting of Hurlbut, Common soon realized something wasn’t right when he got a call to clear the set — but he now says the media flap over the leaked audio only helped to raise the film’s profile: “Let’s just call it a misunderstanding… It eventually became promo for Terminator Salvation. Some people put music to it and it was a song out in the clubs — [Bale's] song was bigger than mine.”

Common defends his co-stars personality as well: “I want to say to everybody Christian Bale is a great human being, a great guy, and some things happen like that.”

The latest chapter in the Terminator franchise had a strong opening, but if it gets any gas from the Bale brouhaha, that’s to the good; the reviews aren’t great.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tangoed with a young fan on Friday as the band kicked off the Good Morning America summer concert series, while also promoting their new album 21st Century Breakdown.

After the show at Rumsey Playfield in NYC’s Central Park, excited fans flowed onto the streets of the Big Apple, fueled by a blend of older hits and new songs from Green Day’s latest, which topped U.S. album charts last week.

Upcoming free shows will include headliners like Lionel Richie, John Legend, the Jonas Brothers, Jamie Foxx, Brad Paisley, and Queen Latifah.
