Kirk Douglas Makes 'Before I Forget' a Family Affair
March 9, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Not one to remain idle, 92-year-old Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas takes center stage in Before I Forget, his brand-new, intimate one-man show in which he reflects on his remarkable life and iconic career. ET was at opening night, which became a family affair with wife Anne in attendance along with son Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who both flew in for the occasion.

"When you're 92 and you can't speak or you have an impediment in your speech, what do you do? A one man show!" he muses to ET. "So here I am. I never wanted to be a movie actor. I always wanted to be a star on the stage. Now I found out how you can become a star of the stage: you build your own theater."

"I wish I had words to explain what it means for a 92-year-old man to stand up and do an hour-and-a-half show on his own, and understanding the nerves involved, and work," said Michael. "It's awe-inspiring, and really inspirational, and a real sense of immortality, and hopefully there will be a few laughs."

Actor Michael J. Fox speaks out about some of the lessons he's learned since revealing he had Parkinson's a decade ago.

Fox has written a new memoir titled Always Looking Up and gives an exclusive preview in the April issue of Good Housekeeping, available on newsstands March 10.

The actor talks about how he was inspired by a famous athlete also struggling with a serious disease. "Then, Lance Armstrong showed up, and I started talking to him; I saw all these people with cancer who followed him to Paris for the Tour de France, and I saw the difference he was making in their lives. That put it together for me…having it be not so much about me, but [my being] a vehicle for it."
