The offices of Michael Jackson’s personal physician DR. Conrad Murray were raided by drug cops on Wednesday as part of their ongoing investigation into the superstar’s death. A squad of officers armed with a search warrant swooped on the medic’s work premises in Houston, Texas, four weeks after Jackson’s sudden death last month. A fleet of vehicles carrying more than 20 officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration arrived outside the Armstrong Medical Clinic shortly before 11am local time. Two Los Angeles police officers and several local cops also joined in the raid. They were reportedly set to seize all documents relating to Murray’s treatment of Jackson, including medical notes, details of any drugs he was taking, and records of prescriptions Murray handed out to the star. Several members of Jackson’s family have urged officials to quiz Murray in recent weeks, amid growing claims there was “foul play” involved in the Thriller hitmaker’s death. Murray was with Jackson when he went into cardiac arrest at his rented home in Los Angeles on 25 June and performed CPR on the star before emergency crews arrived. As WENN went to press, it was unknown whether Murray was present during Wednesday’s raid. |

Is Simon Cowell really Paula Abdul’s American Idol saviour? It looked like Abdul was going to going to be sent to the reality TV scrap heap, after failing to agree a new deal with the show’s bosses. Her fate seemed sealed when her manager laid into Idol producers, saying, “Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on Idol. I find it, under these circumstances, particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful. “I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven’t stepped up and said what they want to do.” All this because they wouldn’t double her salary to $20 million – so say the gossips. Fans on Twitter got wind of the story and used the site to launch a campaign to save Abdul and convince Fox TV executives to keep their favorite judge in place. And it looks like it’s worked. Cowell – Abdul’s nemesis on the show — has actually stepped up and backed her up, insisting “She’ll be fine. She’ll be on the show. I don’t get a lot of say. I’ve just made it clear that I want Paula on the show.” Then again… this could all be one big publicity stunt. |

Five months after a fight with Rihanna that left her battered and bruised and him with assault convictions — Chris Brown has finally said sorry. In a lengthy video released online today, the R&B star seems pretty sincere when he apologises to the girlfriend his swift fists cost him, and the fans who’ve abandoned him since. But surely it’s too little, too late. A transcript of the full statement after the jump.
“Hi, I’m Chris Brown. Since February my attorney has advised me not to speak out, even though ever since the incident I wanted to publicly express my deepest regret and accept full responsibility. Although I will do some interviews and answer questions in the future, I felt it was time that you heard directly from me that I’m sorry. “I have tried to live my life in a way that would make those around me proud of me, and until recently I think I was doing a pretty good job. “I wish I had the chance to live those few moments again but unfortunately I can’t. I can’t go into what happened but most important (sic) I’m not gonna sit here and make any excuses. I take great pride in being able to exercise self control but what I did was inexcusable. I am very sad and very ashamed at what I’ve done. “My mothers and my spiritual teachers have taught me way better than that. I have told Rihanna countless times and I’m telling you today that I’m truly, truly sorry that I wasn’t able to handle the situation both differently and better. “I recognise that I’ve truly been blessed; blessed with a wonderful family, wonderful friends and fans. God has been generous in giving me the ability which has brought me fame and fortune. I’ve done a lot of soul searching over the past several months, I’ve talked with my minister and my mother, and I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand what happened and why. I have let a lot of people down and I realise that. And no one is more disappointed in me than I am. “As many of you know, I grew up in a home where there was domestic violence and I saw first hand what uncontrolled rage could do. I have sought and am continuing to seek help to ensure that what occured in February can never happen again and as I sit here today, I can tell you that I will do everything in my power to make sure that it never happens again and I promise that. “What I did was unacceptable, 100 per cent. Tom Cruise was on hand to watch his best buddy David Beckham in action for the LA Galaxy last night. The Cruiser was a regular visitor to the Staples Center last season when Becks was the Golden Boy and adored by the Galaxy faithful. So it must have been a little awkward watching his pal being booed last night, by fans still bitter he abandoned the team for the first half of this season for a spell on loan at A.C. Milan — last night’s opponents, ironically. Despite contributing to the Galaxy’s two goals in a 2-2 draw, the boos rang out throughout the match, prompting Beckham to snap at the end, when he had to be held back from confronting a group of particularly vociferous fans. How long before the Beckhams pack up and move on? |

Seems like we’ve all got Lindsay Lohan wrong. Our favourite trainwreck is actually a workaholic, who’s toiling away on movie sets when she’s not stumbling out of nightclubs and locking herself out of Samantha Ronson’s house. Lohan insists, “I do like to go out but there aren’t many girls my age who live in L.A. who don’t. But what people don’t realise is that I work very hard during the day. I am a very hard worker, there isn’t much time during the day when I’m not thinking about work. I enjoy going out but I enjoy working more.” OK. So she parties all night and works all day. Sorry Lindsay, but it was an easy mistake to make. The rest of us have to sleep.

A court hearing to decide the future of Michael Jackson’s three children has been postponed until next month. The star’s mother Katherine was due to learn if she would retain custody of Prince Michael, Paris and Prince Michael II in a California court on Monday - but the hearing will now take place on 3 August. It’s the third time authorities have agreed to delay the court date, following Jackson’s sudden death last month. No reasons have been given for the postponement, but sources tell TMZ.com it’s because Katherine is close to agreeing a settlement with Debbie Rowe, the biological mother of Jackson’s two eldest kids. |

David Beckham and Landon Donovan are BFFs again, judging by these pictures from Becks’ first game back with the LA Galaxy last night. In case you missed their schoolyard-style scrap… Donovan criticised Beckham in a new book, calling him unprofessional and slamming him for inviting teammates (who earn a lot less than him) to a restaurant and not picking up the bill. After a week of bickering, the pair were reunited on the field in New York and showed bygones are bygones by holding hands and hugging and engaging in all the standard forms of male bonding associated with soccer. But it seems Galaxy’s fans aren’t quite over Beckham’s decision to gallivant off and play for A.C. Milan for half of the season — he was booed for much of last night’s 3-1 win over Red Bull New York. There’s been no more news on Mischa Barton’s status since it was reported she’d been placed on involuntary psychiatric hold by the LAPD on Thursday, but the silence is being treated by many as confirmation the 23 year old really did have some kind of meltdown. Fingers are being pointed at a recent Heat magazine cover in Britain which flagged up pictures of the star looking super skinny in January and “bloated in July”. Life & Style interviewed her after the mag hit stands — just days before the ‘meltdown’ in fact — and she laughed it off. The quotes, which appeared in this week’s issue, read, “ Was she hiding the real truth? For the record, we ran into Mischa two weeks ago in LA (see above) and she definitely didn’t look “bloated”. “It does get cumbersome to have to address the same non-issues on a repeated basis. Fortunately, I’m healthy and comfortable in my own skin. “I’m happy. I wouldn’t change my body and I couldn’t anyway. The only way to be happy and be a more enjoyable person is to embrace what you’ve got.” |

Cops were called to Mischa Barton’s Los Angeles home last night after she called for help with a ”medical issue”, an LAPD spokesperson has confirmed. Access Hollywood claims a patrol car then picked up the actress and drove her to an unknown location. That’s all the info we have for now. WENN ran into Mischa just two weeks ago, looking bloated and worse for wear after a night out in London. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious. Update: Access Hollywood is reporting that Barton has been placed on n involuntary pyschiatric hold by the LAPD - better known as a code 5150. Madonna’s concert in the south of France on Sunday (19Jul09) has been cancelled after a worker was crushed to death under a falling stage. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon (16Jul09) at Marseilles Stade Velodrome, where Madonna was due to perform at the weekend. According to reports four cranes were holding a large section of the stage when a strap broke dropping it on a group of technicians working below. Authorities in the city have confirmed one person has died, two are fighting for their life in hospital and another six are currently being treated for their injuries. The whole area was barricaded after the accident, and WENN’s sources have confirmed the singer’s performance in the city has been scrapped. Update: The dead man was a 53-year-old Frenchman. The two critically injured workers are American and British. Madonna has released the following statement:
“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news. My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.” |

Paul McCartney shocked New Yorkers with an impromptu outdoor gig yesterday, rocking on the marquee outside the city’s Ed Sullivan Theater — before making his first ever appearance on David Letterman’s talk show. It marked Macca’s return to the venue, 45 years after the Beatles made their U.S. TV debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, which gave the theatre it’s name. It’s not the first time McCartney has rocked out a rooftop — 40 years ago the Beatles played their famous gig atop the London headquarters of their label Apple Records. All a bit more impressive than his ex-wife Heather Mills’ recent attempt to stage her own gravity defying stunt. |

Amy Winehouse’s marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil is officially over - she was granted a divorce by a London court on Thursday. The Back to Black hitmaker’s ex filed for divorce in January after two years of marriage, citing her adultery after seeing pictures of the singer cavorting with another man. In a hearing lasting just minutes, a judge at a London court granted the couple a decree nisi on Thursday. The divorce is expected to be rubber-stamped with a decree absolute within six weeks. Neither Winehouse - who returned to the U.K. on Monday after an eight-month break in the Caribbean to battle her drink and drug addictions - nor Fielder-Civil were present at the hearing.
